JOB SUMMARY
The Attendance Specialist works with students, staff and the surrounding community to reduce student absenteeism to ensure all students are on track to graduate and prepared for life beyond high school. This position is responsible for disseminating information, developing plans, monitoring data and supporting school efforts to reduce student absenteeism.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work or a related field, or
- A minimum of two (2) years of college level studies plus two (2) years of directly related experience working with low-income youth in an educational environment may be substituted for education requirement experience
- Proven ability to provide direct service to students and families with a diverse level of needs
- Ability to work with student and families with a culturally responsive lens
- Ability to collaborate with educators and supportive community members/organizations to provide enriching opportunities for students
- Ability to encourage students to attend school and reduce barriers to school attendance
- Knowledge of alternative learning programs and effective interventions
- Ability to sustain poise and confidence in managing emotional and difficult situations
- Ability to successfully provide case management in a collaborative team atmosphere
- Knowledge of local resources for low-income families
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practices
- Ability to follow attendance laws and communicate the laws to staff, students and families
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Adept at utilizing technology to maintain, track and analyze evaluation data
- Ability to work with students with varying educational, social and economic backgrounds
- Self-motivated, with good organizational skills
- Ability to manage reporting and documenting requirements.
- Ability to conduct home visitations with a wide variety of cultural backgrounds
- Treat co-workers, supervisors, students, parents and others with dignity and respect at all times
- Serve as a positive role model for students, and practice the behaviors that are expected of our students
- Work in a flexible and cooperative manner
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with participants utilizing a relationship model
- Assist in providing leadership and direction for students
- Establish effective and supportive relationships with school administrators, team members, building staff and classroom teachers
- Monitor attendance and academic progress of students
- Serve as liaison between students, school staff, and the community
- Attend and participate in Youth Services Team
- Attend and participate in department and school attendance team meetings
- Maintain updated records and files. Ensure confidentially of all records and files
- Keep daily log of student contact
- Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
- Abides by federal and state laws and school district policies, procedures and rules.
- Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with community and staff.
- Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
- Complies with applicable District, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations.
- Attends work regularly and is punctual.
- Perform such other duties (which may require knowledge of other job descriptions) as may be assigned.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
- Regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment.
7 hours/day

CONTRACT LENGTH: 192 days

QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3 years of experience preferred
- Strong customer service skills and attention to detail
- Previous experience with parent and community outreach is preferred
- Bilingual preferred
