JOB SUMMARY

This position provides guidance for all students to be socially and academically successful. All students are to be prepared with a plan to successfully transition to high school.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties of this position include the following.  Employees in this position must be able to perform with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks.  Other duties may be assigned.

 

  1. Master’s Degree with Valid Oregon Counseling License issued through TSPC or a School Psychologist license issued through the State Department of Education
  2. Coursework/experience in the principles and practices of educational guidance, testing and measurement, psychology of learning, analysis of behavior in attitude change, group dynamics and physical and mental development of the individual child
  3. Ability to provide quality counseling for all students referred by teachers, administrator or parents
  4. Ability to facilitate social and emotional growth among students and to promote academic and overall positive school experiences
  5. Ability to assure that students have the opportunity to explore, develop and express themselves intellectually, socially and emotionally
  6. Ability to Implement Oregon’s Framework for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs
  7. Coordinates section 504 Plan development, updates and implementation
  8. Ability to assist students in solving problems related to home, health and emotional adjustments
  9. Ability to communicate with individuals of varied cultural and educational backgrounds
  10. Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with students, parents, staff and community agencies
  11. Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with student, staff and/or parent information
  12. Such alternative to the above requirements as the School Board or the Administration may deem appropriate and acceptable.
  13. Implements a guidance program following state and district goals that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs and development of students
  14. Participates in parent, teacher and student conferences as requested and initiates such conferences as needed.
  15. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student conduct and supports the teaching staff in developing reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures
  16. Maintains accurate, complete and confidential records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations
  17. Participates in the development and implementation of an individualized education program (IEP) as requested
  18. Administers appropriate tests to students and coordinates or assists with the building testing program as requested
  19. Writes, implements and assesses individual student actions plans as needed
  20. Provides individual and group sessions to assist in peer relations and behavioral change, problem solving, decision making, responsibility, self-understanding and other areas related to cognitive and affective domains
  21. Provides consultation services to school staff related to major concepts of a preventative approach
  22. Successfully plan and deliver classroom lessons related to the school counseling core curriculum
  23. Develops and maintains open lines of communication between the school and home
  24. Coordinates student and family needs with community resources as appropriate, i.e. mental health, juvenile department, health department, ESD, DARE, etc.
  25. Makes referrals to other agencies as appropriate
  26. Keeps abreast of laws, rules, policies and trends regarding guidance and counseling
  27. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences and/or advanced coursework at institutions of higher learning
  28. Attends staff meetings and serves on committees as requested
  29. Initiates and maintains communication with colleagues
  30. Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students, parents and staff
  31. Act as a friendly ambassador of the Mt. Angel School District
  32. Develops and implements individual students plans for graduation and college and career readiness
  33. Perform such other tasks (which may require knowledge of other job descriptions) as may seem to be appropriate to the Board or Administration.
  34. Abides by federal and state laws and school district policies, procedures and rules.
  35. Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with community and staff.
  36. Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
  37. Complies with applicable District, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations.
  38. Attends work regularly and is punctual.

PAY RANGE:                     $39,587 - $69,021

Benefits include: District-paid premium for medical, vision and dental HSA-compliant plans. District pays PERS and contributes to HSA annually for full-time employees.

 

CONTRACT LENGTH:         192 Days (Adjusted)      

                                               

QUALIFICATIONS:                                                                                                                                                       

  • Master’s Degree with Valid Oregon School Counseling License or School Psychologist License
  • Previous AVID experience or training preferred
  • Bilingual preferred
